ACCEPTANCE
Self Acceptance and Society/Fat Acceptance
Self acceptance is loving and appreciating yourself even if there are things you'd eventually like to change. Fat acceptance or society acceptance is getting society as a whole to accept that we have the same rights as everyone else and to reduce prejudice within the community.

Building Your Self Esteem Fund
So Dove has launched a campaign to build self-esteem. And it got me thinking about how you can build your own self-esteem fund. I've decided that it's a mixture of doing some things and a mixture of NOT doing others.
So here is my DON'T TORTURE YOURSELF list:
- Don't read magazines that only focus on skinny celebrities and the latest diets
- Don't watch TV shows designed to star only skinny fabulous types
- Switch of the TV every time you see some new scare tactic about obesity causing the downfall of civilization
- Don't weigh yourself every day, or week
Here is my CONSIDER THIS list:
- Consider supporting shows that have kooky characters or overweight actors. I love NCIS cause Abby is a great character that isn't your standard beauty - she's smart and has personality too. What about Judging Amy - Maxine looks GREAT and has a steady love life. These are just my faves but I'm sure if you start to look around you'll see that being a great person doesn't mean being a certain size, or looking a certain way.
- Read magazines for their articles and not their pictures! Expand your mind - what about travel, business or science magazines? These will give you a view on the outside world, a bit of knowledge and make great conversation starters when you're chatting on line or at a party.
- Try to focus on small positive things about your body rather than weight. Set yourself goals like eating healthier, going for a walk, giving yourself a manicure. Not for weight-loss, but to feel good about yourself.
- Speak at local schools or community groups about self-esteem. Consider mentoring a teenage girl through her most vulnerable years. Help her avoid falling into the low-self esteem traps.
- Put your life into perspective. Don't think about what your body is NOT. Think about what it is. Be grateful for your arms and legs that help you walk, and your mind for the great things it can think about - think about being born in a first-world country, and being able to read. You do have luck in your life if you want to see it.
