MONTHLY EXERCISE
Yes, You Can!
Every month we will feature an exercise developed by our very own Personal Trainer, Mike Tattersall (as he says - Trainer to the Stars - 'cause we're all stars) - Ottawa, Ontario. We will use pictures to show an SSBBW doing the exercise and an explanation on how to do it. All our exercises can be done in the privacy of your own home and using things you have around the house. So throw your workout clothes on and get moving!
This month's exercise....
The Sit Down / Stand Up
Equipment: Sturdy kitchen/dining chair, wall.
Set Up: Place back of chair against a wall.
Starting Position : Place back of chair against a wall. Stand in front of chair a little in front of where you would normally stand to sit.
Instructions:
- Place your weight more on your heels. Lift arms in front of you (like Frankenstein) and keeping the weight on your heels bend your knees and stick your rear end out behind you.
- Slowly lower yourself and try to sit as if the chair is fragile (a controlled sit) - do not flop into chair. If possible try to sit slowly with a 5-10 second count as you go from standing to sitting.
- Keep your arms out in front of you the entire time. Look straight ahead with your chin held high.
- Keeping hands in front of you and weight on heels, stand up as fast as you can. (If needed, use chair with arms (same height as dining chair) or put chair near counter to aid in standing up).
Repetitions: Do as many as you can plus one (1) and work up to 25. (The 'plus one' is because your body gets the most benefit from the most dificult one to perform correctly.
Remember to breathe.
